Paul Domènech grazes his herd of donkeys on the Can Domènech estate, located at the foot of Puig Madrona, between Sant Cugat and El Papiol. Together with his father, as part of a long family tradition of farmers, they decided to launch —with the support of volunteers— a pioneering initiative in the park: introducing a herd of donkeys to reduce the accumulated undergrowth along the area’s paths and field edges.
Aware of the wildfire risk in Collserola and the neglected state of many areas, they saw donkeys as an effective land management tool. They started with a 15-hectare fenced area, which has gradually been expanded. Today, they manage more than 40 hectares with a herd of 7 donkeys that work seven days a week.
